City of the lost - Kelley Armstrong (should be great for fans of mysteries/thrillers, however I'm a wimp)

#1 in the Rockton series
the plot of "City of the lost" sounded amazing
and even though I normally don't read a lot of mysteries
I just needed to give this story a try
a town full of people who wanted/needed to disappear from their normal life
a town in which dangerous things are going on
a town in which our heroine just arrived
this is what I call a cool and pretty fresh plot for a book
and the story definitely was interesting throughout the whole novel
things never got boring
and I was surprised by what was going on several times
a lot of the characters in this book are a bit weird
in a very fascinating way
and even though all of this was great
I still struggled with the book
the main reason is
that the story was a touch too dark and gritty for me
I'm a wimp when reading darker books
so it definitely isn't the books fault
it's all mine
I think my mom, who is a big fan of mysteries, would love the story
so I'm hoping that there will be a German version of the book soon
if you also enjoy mysteries
then I would give this book a try.

  1. I love dark suspense so I would probably love this. Thanks for sharing your honest opinion on this.

    1. Yes, there's a big chance that this is exactly the book for you. I try dark suspense from time to time however it never works for me, I'm too much of a wimp. :)

      Happy Reading!

  2. I loved this book, but I'm a big fan of dark mysteries -- and remote wilderness settings. Given your love of happy books, I can definitely understand why City of the Lost wasn't a good fit for you!

    1. Dark mysteries, mysteries in general, tend to stay in my thoughts for a long time and often give me nightmares, so I can only take small doses of them. However my Mom loves them, so hopefully there will be a German version of this book soon.

      Happy Reading!

  3. Aww that's too bad that this book was too gritty and dark for you. I love a good suspenseful mystery, though, so I think I'd love it. Thanks for your honest review. I hope your next read is a happy book! :)

    1. Thanks! And I think that this book might be perfect for you, the mystery is actually pretty cool and gritty.

      Happy Reading!

  4. Sorry it was a bit too dark for you but this is one of my favourite books. Kelley Armstrong's writing totally works for me and I enjoy a darker mystery now and then.

    1. Seems to me that I'm the only one in the comments who is a total wimp when it comes to dark books. :) But I'm ok with it, happy romances just work best for me.

      Happy Reading!
