Favourite books read in 2017 | My top 12 | Plans for 2018

2017 - my reading year

2017 was an erratic reading year for me. In some months I read several amazing books, in other months none at all. Some months I was flying through the books I read, other months I didn't even finish one book. This might sound like a stressful situation to some, however I managed to stay relaxed. I have learned that inconsistent reading phases are a normal part of my life.

I still managed to read a good number of books in 2017, however I can't tell you exactly how many because I stopped keeping track of my reading numbers some time ago. Looking back at the year 12 books stood out for me, 12 books that months after reading them still hold a piece of my heart.

Some of the 12 books I read in print format, some as ebooks. Most are adult novels, however some young adult books and one new adult book is also on my list. Most books are contemporary romances, however there are also some scifi, urban fantasy and romantic suspense books on the pile. All in all a good combination of different genres that worked well for me in 2017.

My top 12  - the order of the list follows the course of the year

  • Gemina - Amie Kaufman + Jay Kristoff  (YA scifi)
  • Alex, Aproximately  - Jenn Bennett (YA contemporary)
  • The Hot Shot - Kristen Callihan (contemporary romance)
  • Twist - Kylie Scott    (contemporary romance)
  • 180 seconds - Jessica Park (NA contemporary romance)
  • Little Black Dress - Various (four short contemporary romances)
  • Bad Penny - Staci Hart (contemporary romance)
  • Marked in Flesh - Anne Bishop (urban fantasy)
  • Stay - Sarina Bowen + Elle Kennedy (contemporary romance)
  • Wing Jones - Katherine Webber (YA contemporary)
  • Secrets in Death - JD Robb (romantic suspense)
  • Autoboyography - Christina Lauren (YA/NA contemporary)

  • Were all of these books perfect? No! Did all of these books leave a lasting impression on me, entertained me well and own a piece of my heart? Yes! And that's exactly why they belong on my list of best books read in 2017.

    In 2018 I want to

    • read books by some new to me authors
    • discover new favourite authors
    • read more books by favourite authors whose books have accompanied me for many years
    • read a lot of beautiful love stories
    • also continue to read other genres besides contemporary romance
    • have my heart broken and repaired by emotional stories
    • read a lot of happy and funny books
    • continue to be a relaxed and happy reader
    • have a good time with my book blog
    • celebrate ten years of About Happy Books

Which books belong to your favourites read in 2017? Which plans do you have for 2018?

    2. What a great mix of books! I agree with Gemina and Alex Approximately. And Autoboyography and Twist are both on my TBR. I cannot wait to read them now! Good luck with your reading goals for 2018.

    3. Marked in Flesh! Such a great book. Anne Bishop is so consistently good -- can't wait for the spinoff series. And ten years of the blog, wow! Congratulations Sabrina!
