Girl against the universe - Paula Stokes (an emotional and uplifting YA story)

Girl against the Universe
young adult contemporary
topics are dealing with loss + grief, finding out who you are, working on getting mentally stronger and family
I was drawn to this book because of the gorgeous cover
but mostly because I loved the sound of the plot
a girl who thinks that she brings others bad luck
who is trying to control everything
but knows that this will always make it hard to be happy
to enjoy life
when this girls meets a boy
who is looking for someone to talk to
someone to relax with
things begin to change
from the get go I enjoyed the author's writing style
and especially her characters
I could connect with the main characters quiet easily
and was interested in what was going on in their lives
I loved that the relationship between Maguire and Gordy
started as a friendship
and had time to develop
time to grow
that the romance wasn't in your face
that they got time to work on their issues
before starting their romance
not everything in the story was completely believable
but I was ok with that
because Paula Stokes made things work for me
I also enjoyed the interactions between Maguire and her family
it was nice to see how she got closer to her stepfather
and started to see him as a person to lean on
someone to talk to
"Girl against the universe" is an emotional
but also uplifting and entertaining YA book
that I enjoyed reading.
