Book haul: new books + bookmarks from the last five weeks

Let's talk about all the new books and bookmarks I bought (was gifted in three cases) in the last five weeks.

I bought three ebooks, all romances, I don't know that much about. I discovered them online, they sounded good, so I got them. Maybe they will be amazing, maybe really bad. We will see.

Then I bought a copy of

The book was "hardcover, used - like new" and I was super excited to receive it in the mail because I usually love the fantasy novels by Neumeier and her new book sounds and looks amazing. But when I opened the package I saw that the seller had sent me an ARC, which is of course not for sale. I was so mad about it!

I already have my money back and plan to buy another copy of "The white road of the moon" soon, but this time a completely new copy to make sure that I don't get another book that shouldn't be sold.

Btw, I often wonder why I rarely see books by Rachel Neumeier on other blogs, booktube channels and so on. I think her fantasy novels are special and great, so if you haven't read anything by her before, check out her books and maybe you will also enjoy them.

The next two books I got as presents from a family member. I like fermentation processes, for example I produce my own kombucha, so the book on fermentation is perfect for me. I also love the very pretty version of "Jane Eyre" (German translation) I got. The only thing the book is missing are rough-cut pages. Both books were bought in a Büchergilde bookstore, they are well known for designing special covers and their stores are definitely worth a visit.

Then I just had to buy

I love the TED talks (here and here) by Adichie and I'm very excited to finally read something by her. Plus I think that the topic of the book is super important, hopefully her 15 suggestions will be powerful.

I also bought/got three new bookmarks. The white one with the S was a gift from my sister. The other two I bought via Dawanda (like a German etsy) from the seller Bär von Pappe

Next I bought two books I have previously read and wanted to have on my shelves. I read "This girl is different" years ago and wanted my own print copy ever since, because the story and characters touched me deeply. Since then the author has published two other books and both are on my wish list, for example "Believarexic"

And I want to get some of the romantic suspense books by Nora Roberts in the original versions because the German translations I own are often pretty bad. That's why I bought "Montana Sky".

I also bought three books with paranormal/special aspects. The book by Alison Goodman is the second book in a historical series that I'm pretty excited about, "Nice dragons finish last" sounds like a funny and light-hearted paranormal story and I'm super excited to finally read a book from one of Jenn Bennett's adult series.

Last, but not least I have three more books to share with you. The YA book by Jenn Bennett was a preorder, after reading and loving her first YA book "Night Owls" last year, it was clear that her new contemporary young adult book would be a must for me. I started reading "Alex, Approximately" two days ago, finished it today and absolutely loved it.

"Martini Henry" is a book I bought spontaneously in a bookstore. It's supposed to be hilarious und quirky, that's all I know about it. And the book by Katherine Woodfine sounds like a charming, mostly light-hearted mystery.

Which books did you recently buy/got from the library/got as a gift?

  1. Someone tried to sell you an ARC on ebay? That's awful, no wonder you were mad! I haven't read anything by Rachel Neumeier but now I really want to! Have you read The Mountain of Kept Memory? That one looks the most appealing to me.

Nice Dragons Finish Last is SO CUTE! I hope you love it, Sabrina. I have a feeling you will. Jenn Bennett's Arcadia Bell series is also a personal favourite, can't wait to hear your take on that one.

    1. I was so mad, I will never understand how people think it's ok to sell ARCs, that's just not ok. It happened to me before years ago and that put me of buying used books for some time.

I haven't read "The mountain kept of memory" so far, however I enjoyed the Black Dog - books, House of Shadows, The floating islands and The city in the lake. And I have "Keeper of the Mist" as an ebook, but haven't read it so far. I'm mostly drawn to Neumeiers YA fantasies, but might give her upcoming adult one a chance.

And I'm definitely super excited about "Nice dragons finish last" and the Arcadia Bell series, I'm very hopeful that I will love both.

      Happy Reading!

  4. What a compliment, you bought a book after I mentioned it! Nice Dragons Finish Last is worth the read so I hope you like it. That's pretty awesome. I can see a few books I need to add to my shelves from this post, I've not read much Nora Roberts but that one looks pretty good, I am a fan of romantic suspense. And I really want to read Jenn Bennett's Arcadia Bell series so I hope you enjoy. I really want her newest YA book, I meant to preorder and never did and now most places it's not in stock! I may have to treat myself to it from Book Depository.

I can't believe someone tried to sell you an ARC! Bad manners indeed. I've not heard of Rachel Neumeier but I may check out her books now.

I hope that you will like the sound of some of the books by Rachel Neumeier. I still need to buy my new (second) copy of her book, but plan to do so soon.

      Happy Reading!
