I don't want to write books

I don't want to write books, I don't want to be an author. And I never dreamed of it. Yes, I love reading books and writing/talking about them, but that never led to me being interested in writing a novel myself.

I use my blog posts as a vehicle for my thoughts, the written word is a means to an end to share my thoughts on books with others, nothing more and nothing less. I'm not the kind of person who loves the writing process, never did and probably never will. And that's totally fine for me. Of course I try my best when writing blog posts, but for me there isn't much joy in the writing part.

Of course for other book bloggers things are completely different, I'm sure that many started their book blogs because of their passion for reading and writing. Going from writing your blog to writing your novel seems like a logical step for those bloggers.

So it doesn't surprise me that many book bloggers are working on their own novels, are getting publishing deals. So far most books by well known book bloggers (and especially booktubers) haven't interested me, however I'm sure one day one will.

And yes, then I'm planning to give the novel a fair chance. With the hope that I will be able feel the author's passion for writing, for creating wonderful characters and complex words. And I will have the same standards for the book as I do for others, there is no book blogger book bonus, at least not for me.

Do you want to write a book?

  1. I think a lot of people can relate to this post. I’ve had several bloggers contact me and ask to do a review swap. They want me to review their book, and they’ll review mine. I have to email them back and say “I don’t have a book.” People just assume I’m an author because I like books.

    1. I didn't know that that is a thing, so far nobody asked me for such an exchange.

      Happy Reading!

  2. I can totally relate to your post! I get that most bloggers dream to be an author and started a blog to channel their passion, but for me, my blog is an outlet to share about the books and things I love. I don't want to be an author too, I mean, I love writing, but I can't write coherently for 500-pages. I'm struggling to finish 3 pages essay, how can I write a novel? xD

    1. So true. Just thinking about having to fill 500 pages makes me very nervous, I would bore readers to death on page 10 and nothing would make sense in the long run.

      Happy Reading!

  3. This is such an interesting topic, Sabrina! I do think that a lot of book bloggers/reviewers want to be authors themselves, not necessarily because they're bloggers but because that's just the type of reader they are...if that makes sense? But I'm like you, I've never been interested in writing a novel (although I do like writing short fiction sometimes) and feel completely satisfied by writing reviews instead.

The upcoming book blogger book I'm most excited for is Borrowed Souls by Chelsea Mueller! It looks quite good.
