The year of the rat - Clare Furniss

when Pearl's mother dies suddenly and unexpectedly
everything chances
Pearl is angry and bitter
and struggles with moving on
especially because her newborn sister
"the rat"
constantly reminds her of her mother's death
I really enjoyed the first half of this book
Pearl's voice was special and full of anger
exactly what I would expect from a teen being in such a situation
in the second half go the story I wanted more interactions between Pearl and her family
the story no longer touched me as deeply as in the beginning
overall this was still a good book
however not the best YA novel dealing with loss and grief that I've read
great and very emotional YA books that deal with grief and loss are
Hold Still by Nina LaCour
and
Shadow Falls by Amy Kathleen Ryan.
