Updates: new design, deleted links, Camiloveskiwi and more

I changed some things on About Happy Books and I want to update you on all the little and big changes that happened over the last days.

1. As you can see ABH has a wonderful new design, it's once again one from Zoe from Chic & Sassy Designs and I'm in love with it. I loved my old design, but it was time for a new one, I had enough of all the purple. :) The new design is clean but also a bit playful, for me it's the perfect combination.

2. I went through all my old posts and deleted some links to sites/services I no longer want to support. I deleted some links to books on Book Depository (I want to support book shopping in small, independent stores and not the big players) and to Goodreads (too much negativity on the site for my taste). It's btw an coincidence that both sites now belong to the same company. From now on all the links I use will lead to the books on websites by authors or publishers.

3. I updated all my bookish sayings with the new design and while doing so I got excited to create some new ones, I hope that the first new one will be ready soon.

4. I went through my categories and removed some that didn't make sense anymore, I also added new labels like read and reading. Now the labels should fit perfectly to the posts I write and they should also be less confusing.

5. To end this post I want to share a video by Camiloveskiwi, she is one of the youtubers I like (not that many are left) and she recently uploaded a video called "Why I Quit Youtube (for a while): The Problem with Youtube Gurus.". I think pretty much everything she said in the video is spot on and could be transferred to what is going on in the book community, both on blogs and on booktube, right now. Things like review copies, sponsored videos / posts and a general monetization of pretty much everything seems to become more and more important and omnipresent, I'm personally not a fan of it and hope that there will be always enough blogs/channels that blog purely as a hobby.

Happy Reading!

  1. I love your new design!!! I liked the old one too but this one has a more modern vibe and I like the clean look of your blog. :-)

I don't like the negativity on GR too, but I think it's the best site to connect to a lot of people at once. And I try to avoid all the scandals etc. ^^

    1. Me too, especially the clean look was something I missed with my old design.

I tried to avoid all the drama on Goodreads but something was always going on and I got more and more annoyed, so I decided to delete my account. At times I miss the community, but overall it was still the right decision for me.

    1. Thanks! Zoe's designs are IMO always amazing. And I hope that you will enjoy the video, Cami is one of the few beauty youtubers left who I trust completely.

  3. Love the new design, it's so fresh and clean. Your header is great! Thanks for sharing that video, I still love Youtube but feel the same way really! It sucks when you feel you can't trust peoples opinions anymore due to sponsorship etc and as someone over the age of 25 so much content seems to be aimed at teens :(

    1. Thanks!

And yes, that is exactly how I feel about Youtube, it's sad that I no longer can trust many Youtubers anymore and that there is not a lot of content for adults, it's getting more and more frustrating to find good videos.

      Happy Reading!
