My name is Jennifer and I blog over at Feminist Fairy Tale Reviews. I have been an obsessive reader for most of my life. My parents were diligent about reading to me as a child and I continued their example once I started reading on my own.

I'm a fairly open-minded reader who is willing to try almost anything. My favorite genres are historical romance, paranormal romance, urban fantasy, fantasy, and dystopian. I read both adult, young adult, and middle grade fiction. Of all the ways to read books nowadays, my preference is still print, but I am starting to read more e-books. I am also a huge fan of audiobooks.
I love reading because it transports me into another world. Sometimes real life can get too much so I delve into a book as a means of escape. Also, I love learning new things and the best way to do that is through reading. I cannot tell you how much trivia (useless and helpful) I have learned through my books.
As a reader, I am always interested in the characters. I'm fascinated by people, in general, so I'm always on the lookout for fun little quirks or even messed up psyches. Characters are the most important aspect of a book for me so, if I don't connect with them, I probably won't finish the book. I love happily ever afters so most of the books that I recommend will have that aspect. I also appreciate well-done worldbuilding especially in fantasy, urban fantasy, and paranormal romance.
Bridgerton Family series by Julia Quinn (historical romance)
This is the series that got me into romance novels years ago. I happened to pick up the first book at a bookstore and thought the concept was intriguing. Next thing I knew I was an obsessive romanceaholic and glommed everything that JQ had written. There are seven books in this series and each one deals with a different sibling in the Bridgerton family. Quinn provides quite a few different plot points for this series from a Cinderella retelling to unrequited love to a treasure hunt. One thing that a reader can always rely on with this author and this series is the humor and heart. The Bridgertons are a truely admirable family that cares for each other and shows it without reservation.
Favorite in the Series: The Viscount Who Loved Me (#2)
Demonica/Lords of Deliverance series by Larissa Ione (paranormal romance)
I am counting these two series together since they take place in the same world, but they can be read separately. The Demonica series involves a set of siblings who are Seminus demons, subspecies of incubi, that run and work at a demon hospital known as Underworld General Hospital (UGH...lol).
The Lords of Deliverance series, which is ongoing, tells the story of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (well, three men and one woman) and how they try to prevent the end of the world from happening.
All of these books have great characters, main and secondary, that feel like real people despite the fact that most of them aren't human. The plots are extremely unique and the worldbuilding is one of the most complicated and creative I've read in years. I should also say that Ione's couples engage in some pretty steamy sex...most of them are sex demons after all.
Favorite in the Series: Passion Unleashed (Demonica #3) and Lethal Rider (Lords of Deliverance #3)

Jane Jameson series by Molly Harper (paranormal romance)
This is a paranormal romance series that tells the story of a single couple, Jane and Gabriel. Our heroine, Jane, is a small-town children's librarian who was turned into a vampire shortly after being fired from her job...a little out there, but it works! The series shows how Jane adjusts to her new undead life which involves ghosts, werewolf brides, occult bookstores, lots of comedy, and one sexy vampire sire. The background of vampirism in these books is pretty creative and the plots are very easy to follow. The cast is pretty big and highly entertaining especially Jane.
Favorite in the Series: Nice Girls Don't Bite Their Neighbors (#4)
Angelfall by Susan Ee
This is a self-published urban fantasy book that I fell in love with earlier this year. It gave me everything I want in UF from epic action scenes to a kickass heroine to a creative concept.Basically, the premise of Angelfall is that the end of the world has come and the angels have taken over the Earth. Our heroine, Penryn, is trying to run away from the angels with her wheelchair-bound sister and her schizophrenic mother. When Penryn's sister is kidnapped, she is determined to save her from the horrors that she knows the angels will inflict.
On her journey, she discovers an angel with his wings torn off. Together Penryn and Raphael search for Penryn's sister and the attack angels. This one completely took me by surprise, but in the best sense. I loved the interactions between Penryn and Raphael and how they were forced to rely on each other despite their immediate dislike.
The world of Angelfall is very creepy and disturbing in parts which I found very refreshing since the end of the world shouldn't be too bright and fluffy. BTW, it is also only $2.99 at most ebook retailers!
