a Steampunk-inspired trilogy filled with adventure, invention, murder, and mystery
I love the author's writing style in her adult novels, the way she creates extraordinary worlds and fascinating characters. So of course I'm super excited for her new book and I don't care that it's YA instead of adult. Of course I hope that she will some day get the chance to go back to writing adult novels.
Here's the synopsis for the new book
When a fire consumes Meg's home, killing her parents and destroying both her fortune and her future, all she has left is the tarnished pocket watch she rescued from the ashes. But this is no ordinary timepiece. The clock turns out to be a mechanical key—a key only Meg can use— that unlocks a series of deadly secrets and intricate clues that Meg has no choice but to follow. She has uncovered evidence of an elite secret society and a dangerous invention that some will stop at nothing to protect, and that Meg alone can destroy. Together with the handsome stable hand she barely knows but hopes she can trust, Meg will be swept into a hidden world of deception, betrayal, and revenge. The clockwork key has unlocked her destiny.
Im super excited for the book because I'm just happy to read more by Jess Granger. A lot of authors of adult books seem to write YA, or both adult and YA, right now, Elizabeth George is another author that comes to mind, as is Kathy Reichs. I enjoyed "The Edge of Nowhere", the first book in the new YA series by George, a lot (the German version was published months ago) and I also enjoy the Virals series by Reichs.
Have you read books by authors who write both adult and YA? Have both types of books by one author worked for you?

I've never heard of Jess Granger or one of her books before, but after reading your reviews I really think I have to give them a try!
ReplyDelete"Legacy of the Clockwork Key" sounds interesting as well. I'm not sure if it will be something for me, but I'm looking forward to reading some of the reviews once it's published, to find out more.
The books she wrote as Jess Granger are IMO fantastic, unfortunately they are pretty unknown.
DeleteI haven't read any of Kristin Bailey's books, but Legacy of the Clockwork Key sounds awesome! I'm adding it to my Goodreads shelf!
ReplyDeleteI can't think of any authors off the top of my head who have both adult and YA books I've read. I guess the closest would be Tolkien. The Hobbit was intended to be more for kids and young adults, and then The Lord of the Rings is definitely more of an adult book. It's interesting to see how much his writing style changes between those two books/series. I actually like his style in The Hobbit a million times more!
I didn't even think of Tolkien but of course he is a great example for authors who write/wrote both adult and YA books. I love both The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.
DeleteHappy Reading!
