Bookmarks - what do you use?

When it comes to bookmarks I'm pretty flexible. I have a big collection of beautiful bookmarks but also use whatever paper is near me when I read a book.
My favourite bookmark says "Shhh! I'm reading" as you can see below. Whenever I read and someone tries to interrupt me I just show them the bookmark and continue with reading :)

Today I want to know what you use to mark where you stopped reading and if you have a favourite bookmark.

And if you are reading on an ereader, do you have the possibility to choose from a library of virtual bookmarks? Or is there nothing similar to a bookmark when it comes to ereaders?

  1. Cute bookmark Sabrina! :-)

I have lots of bookmarks, but I tend not to use them. Usually I just grab whatever paper bit I have near and use that, I never have any nice bookmarks near when I need them :-)

  2. Ever since I started getting bookmarks as result of book blogging (I only had like two before then) I've been using bookmarks. I usually choose my bookmarks according to what kind of book I'm reading at the moment. So if it's a contemporary, I'll pick a contemporary books' bookmark.

Nice question. I don't use e-readers. 'Cause I don't have one. Send me one, why don't ya? ;)

  3. I'm a eReader person and unfortunately there is nothing like cute and lovely bookmarks. The eReader normally saves the last read page and when you open again it just opens the last read page.
Very convenient! But I love beautiful bookmarks!

  4. For the past few years I've been sticking with one bookmark, a gift from friends. I do have other bookmarks I get for free but mostly I leave them aside unless I'm reading more than 1 book at a time, which is quite rare.

  5. When reading print books I generally use school pics of my kids - what else would I do with those silly pics? Every year I put the extras in an envelope on my bookshelf & when I grab a book I grab a pic, also. It makes me smile when I open the book!!
With my eReader, i love the bookmarks. I can keep several. But all it does is auto flip to that page (this is terrific for the teaser Tuesday reminders). However, better than that - every time it goes to sleep mode my Nook brings up one of the picks & have stored on it. I love looking at my family!!

  6. Right now for the paper books I am reading I am really loving The Wish List bookmark that I picked up earlier this year. What can I say, it is pink :)

My ereader just saves the last page I read which I love :) I miss bookmarks but my case is Pink so that makes up for it :)

  7. I have a stack of free bookmarks I got from the library. I lose pretty ones or pass them on to other readers unknowingly (ie leave them in books). I consider buying nice ones but it's pretty low on my list of priorities.

  8. I actually collect both signed and unsigned bookmarks from authors that offer them free for the cost of a postage paid envelope and some that just send them at their own cost so have all kinds of bookmarks that feature books to use when saving my place... My faves are the small size for MMPB and then the longer ones can be used in my Trade PB and HB books... No particular kind but use a few over and over until they wear out and then get a new one out to use....

I also of course have my collection housed in a scrapbook to look at as use the "extras" for my actual reading!

  9. Like you, if I have a bookmark handy, I use it. If I don't, a receipt, a piece of paper, whatever will also do. If nothing is available, I've been known to dog-ear, too.

  10. I made some Book Thongs a couple of weeks ago and LOVE them!! They don't fall out of my book like the paper or metal ones do!

  11. Good to know that I'm not the only one who's sometimes to lazy to get a bookmark (it would take less than a minute to get one :) )

I recently thought of designing some bookmarks and I want to use "Bug me during reading and I will insert this scalpel into your spleen" - it's from a Grey's Anatomy fanpage and I just changed it to reading. Hope people who tend to interrupt me during reading will get the message.

  12. i just have the one book mark, i had more but i lost them which is typical, my current new bookmark is a dragonfly thingy... i don't even know what its called, but its not traditional. if i don't have that around i find a piece of paper. i hate it when people dog ear books.

  13. I LOVE my ereader because it can bookmark as many pages as you want. And highlight text = i.e. favorite quotes.

As for physical ones, I have an entire little box and yet always end up using a piece of paper I can take review notes on :)

  14. I have one my children made when they were little - just a piece of notebook paper they colored; I also got a lace bookmark in Ireland. But I usually use whatever piece of mail I have laying around!

  15. I don't use bookmarks, although I have some. I usually flip the book over and leave it with pages open on my nightstand or a table. When I take books to work to read in my lunch break, I just skip pages until I find the one, where I stopped reading. Not very diva-like, huh?

  16. Now that I've accumulated some various authors bookmarks I use those and seem to rotate through them based on the size of the bookmark and the size of the book. However if I'm without one I use anything I can, pictures, receipts. Love my Kindle because it marks my page for me, no thinking necessary.

  18. When I was younger, I had a leather bookmark picked up from a Castle gift shop. It was a beautiful red colour, that had gold coloured lettering stating "Castle Conway, Conwy Castle". English then Welsh, I'd assumed... Given that the castle was in Wales that's a good guess. Then it got lost in a house move and since then I'd use bits of torn envelopes or scraps of paper I'd find lying around. Recently, I've been gifted with one pretty wood bookmark, and two free card ones with purchases from thebookdepository.com. My favourite is the sandy coloured one with lizards on. :)
