Favourite quotes - have you got any?

I'm not a person who remembers quotes from books I read (at all!) but still there is one sentence from a contemporary romance that I will never forget.
When I read "Kiss and Tell " by Linda Howard I was fascinated by the main characters and their love story. The one sentence that makes me adore the hero Marc Chastain forever is

"...., but if his eyes saw any imperfections, his heart didn't care."

Ah, every time I read this I have to smile. It's just so sweet and romantic.

Do you have any favourite quotes form books you read? Why are they so special to you?

  1. This is a philosophy to live by:

Some prices are just too high, no matter how much you may want the prize. The one thing you can't trade for your heart's desire is your heart.
    Lois McMaster Bujold, "Memory", 1996

Of course, I love all the Miles Vorkosigan books by Lois McMaster Bujold and she is very quotable as can be seen here.

  2. I don't remember quotes either, but the one from Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman I just loved so much, that I've added it on my blog & maybe you've seen it ;) but here it is again if you hadn't:

"Stories are like spiders, with all they long legs, and stories are like spiderwebs, which man gets himself all tangled up in but which look so pretty when you see them under a leaf in the morning dew, and in the elegant way that they connect to one another, each to each."

  3. I'm a serious quote person, and I even have a Friday meme about favorite quotes in books. I have MANY! One of my favs is from City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare:

"Well, I’m not kissing the mundane,’ said Jace. ‘I’d rather stay down here and rot.’

Forever?’ said Simon. ‘Forever’s an awfully long time.’

Jace raised his eyebrows. ‘I knew it,’ he said. ‘You want to kiss me, don’t you?"

  4. I collect quotes from all over the place (I have a movie quote tattooed on my arm), but my favorite one from a book is “Atticus told me to delete the adjectives and I’d have the facts.” -To Kill A Mockingbird

  5. Quotes are my hobby! I write out reams and reams of them in notebooks! From movies, books, and even people I know. It's hard to pick just one, so I'll go with a classic.
In The Lord of the Rings, Return of the King, Merry says this to Aragorn:
"It is the way of my people to use light words at such times and say less than they mean. We fear to say too much. It robs us of the right words when a jest is out of place."
When I first read this quote, I realized how perfectly it fit my whole attitude. It reminds me of my shortcomings, and encourages me to try harder.
A lighter quote favourite of mine is from the Gallagher Girl book 2, Cross my Heart and Hope to Spy.
"You really saw some?" Liz said an hour after..."They really...exist?"
Liz," I whispered back. "They're not unicorns."
"No," Bex said flatly, "They're boys. And they're good."
I love this quote in context, but it sounds even more hilarious if that's all you read!

  6. There's a quote in The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand about being your true self in the absence of others. What do you like when you're alone? Who are you when you're by yourself? That's the true you.

I'm looking endlessly to find the exact quote - no luck yet...

  7. Great quotes, ladies! It's so cool that some of you can remember quotes and collect them.

There's actually a second quote I will never forget but it only works in German ("Würde ist sein im Konjunktiv").
